Dear Friends,

As you may know from my previous Board summaries, the Loudoun County Board of Supervisors has begun a community outreach effort in the Potomac and Sterling communities to engage citizens in a public dialogue on community concerns, needs, and desires, along with suggestions on improving the quality of life within neighborhoods. So far, I have been able to attend two of the three outreach meetings, with the last meeting to be held Wednesday evening. We have had a good turn out at all three meetings convened to date. I am very encouraged to see such great participation. Some of the topics of discussion from participants include: traffic and congestion; public transportation; overcrowding; law and zoning enforcement; taxes; graffiti; environmental concerns; communication with county government; and other quality of life issues.

If you are a resident of Sterling, Sugarland or Cascades areas please join us Wednesday, May 14. We start with an open house from 5:00 – 6:00 with the input session running from 6:00 p.m. – 9 p.m. at Park View High School. If you cannot make the meeting and would like some input into the process, please click this link, http://www.loudoun.gov/Default.aspx?tabid=2172, and fill out the survey form online.

Lastly, I would like to thank Supervisors McGimsey, Buckley, Waters, Miller, Kurtz, Burton and Burk for supporting this effort. Only the Sterling District Supervisor did not support this initiative. Unfortunately, he has resorted to misinformation saying once again that Sterling Park was being planned for urban residential densities. This is absolutely not true. There has NEVER been a motion within the Board of Supervisors, in the 13 years that I have been on the Board, that ANYONE has EVER recommended or made a motion for any of the Sterling District to be an Urban Center. “Urban” is a designation for the Dulles Town Center Project ONLY. It is not even close to the magnitude of the Reston Town Center. Further more; it doesn’t even come close to the 22 units per acre that Supervisor voted for within his own district last year.

As soon as these community outreach sessions are complete then the Board will look at doing the Dulles, Ashburn and Lansdowne communities.

Last but certainly not least, today the Governor introduced his plan to solve the transportation crisis. I will be send out shortly a follow up e-mail that summarizes his package. Please note on your calendar that he will be coming back to Loudoun County for one of his town hall meetings. The date is June 11 at Harper Park Middle School starting at 7:00 p.m..

With warm regards,

Scott

Report of the May 6, 2008 Board of Supervisors Business Meeting

Listed below is a summary report of the Board’s action taken at its May 6, 2008 business meeting. On items requiring follow up, the staff person responsible is noted.
